Chelsea sell Willian to Man Utd as Solskjaer battles to sign transfer targets

Chelsea has given Manchester United the chance to sign Willian as the Red Devils prepare this summer to bolster their attacking options.

Willian was reportedly offered to Manchester United as the winger comes to the end of his Chelsea deal. This summer, the Brazilian is a free agent and has been hailed as a potential signing for United with Ole Gunnar Solskjae seeking to reinforce the attack on his side.

Initially, Chelsea was keen to keep Willian until the end of the campaign, tabling a two-year extension earlier in the season.

The 31-year-old, however, rejected the bid because he wanted an extra 12 months on the contract as well as a pay increase.

Willian was subsequently linked to moves to Tottenham and Arsenal, whereas it now appears the veteran was also offered to United.

Jadon Sancho is the No 1 goal for Solskjaer but the Dortmund Borussia ace is worth £ 100million.

Aston Villa playmaker Jack Grealish is also on the club’s wishlist but could cost as much as £70 m, making a move for Willian all the more appealing.

The latest report, however, suggests that United will pass on the opportunity to sign the Chelsea ace because it does not fit the profile of players they wish to sign.

Solskjaer is searching for talented, homegrown players who can help bring the Old Trafford club back to the Premier League summit.

And with Willian entering the twilight of his career, he would not be providing the United need for a long-term solution.

Whether Willian will even complete the current campaign at Stamford Bridge because of his contract status remains to be seen.

The new contract for the player expires at the end of the month, and today is the deadline for a short-term extension.

Since joining Chelsea in 2013, Willian has won an impressive haul of silverware including two Premier League titles.
