This last rule has its logic. Black does not have the advantage of the first move in chess, and the rules compensate for this structural handicap. During the chess phases, competitors wear noise-canceling headsets so the audience cannot feed them moves.<\/span><\/p>\n

The requirement of an Elo rating between 1600 and 1800 eliminates Sunday amateurs.
