The English Premier League, EPL, has announced that six people have tested positive for the novel coronavirus from three clubs after the first phase of mass testing.

The English top-flight league confirmed this in a statement on its official website on Tuesday.

The statement read: “Results from COVID-19 testing from 17 and 18 May on players and club staff have been released.

“The Premier League can today confirm that, on Sunday 17 May and Monday 18 May, 748 players and club staff were tested for coronavirus.

This is coming a day after Premier League clubs resumed training in small groups on Monday.

The UK government has already given the Premier League and all other top-level sports in England the green light to restart the season behind closed doors next month.

However, the matches will be played without spectators until a coronavirus vaccine is found.
